This is a great book that covers the
business/management side of IT/IS. Bob is one of my
favorite columnists in the industry, and I recommend
this book to both techies and managers alike.
The Mythical Man-Month by
Frederick P. Brooks
An IT classic, this was one of the first
books to dissect how to run a successful software
project. Most IT managers can cite rules from this
book by heart... even while they violate others.
Peopleware by
Tom DeMarco & Timothy Lister
Another IT classic on the formation of
productive teams. Hint: cubicles are evil.
Death March by Edward Yourdon
This is the classic text of IT trouble. You
will find the causes of every failed project in this
book.
Software Project Survival Guide by
Steve C McConnell
A good book on running software projects in
general.
